Online poetry classes starting in September

Galway Arts Centre is offering a new series of online poetry classes starting next month, with a choice of three courses.
These will begin on Tuesday, September 21, and all will be facilitated by Kevin Higgins.
Kevin has had several collections published by Salmon Poetry, the most recent of which was 2019’s Sex and Death at Merlin Park Hospital. His latest book The Colour Yellow & The Number 19: Negative Thoughts That Helped One Man Mostly Retain His Sanity During 2020 is a mix of poetry and prose and was published in November by Nuascéalta. Kevin’s sixth full poetry collection, Ecstatic, will be published by Salmon next March.
His work has featured in anthologies including Identity Parade –New British and Irish Poets (2010) and The Hundred Years’ War: modern war poems (2014) – both published by Bloodaxe. It was also analysed in The Cambridge Introduction to Modern Irish Poetry and has been translated into many languages.
For the Arts Centre workshops, Kevin will give participants a weekly poetry-writing exercise, followed by constructive suggestions.
