Novelists share their secrets at Scrutable literary event

Irish novelists EM Reapy and Billy O’Callaghan will speak about their work and discuss ‘Obsessions’ at an evening in the city’s Black Gate Cultural Centre on Wednesday next. March 27.
Fellow writer Aoife Casby will chair the free event which is being held as part of the Scrutable Literary series. It will kick off at 8pm.
Scrutable literary events are for anyone who has ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes in an author’s writing world.
Authors discuss how they think about their work, the hidden work they do, what informs their writing – in other words the aspects of writing that readers don’t normally hear about. Scrutable happenings are designed to be fun, inviting people to eavesdrop on and be part of the literary conversation.
EM (Elizabeth) Reapy’s debut novel Red Dirt – about a group of young Irish migrants in Australia – was published in 2016 and won Newcomer of the Year at the Irish Book Awards that year. The following year, she was awarded the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature. In 2018, Elizabeth was one of the UNESCO Dublin City of Literature Writers-in-Residence.
Her next novel Skin will be published by Head of Zeus, which also published Red Dirt.
