Dublin duo We Cut Corners celebrate the release of their second album with a show in Galway City on Friday, April 25. Drummer and singer Conall Ó Breacháin is looking forward to the imminent release of Think Nothing. “We’re waiting for our vinyl to arrive and everything else is in place; it’ll be out on the 25th of April,” he says.

Conall’s fellow corner-cutter is singer and guitarist John Duignan. Their debut, Today I Realised I Could Go Home Backwards, secured a prestigious Choice nomination. How did they go about making its follow-up?“This one was done in a variety of places,” Conall says. “We would’ve originally demoed the tracks ourselves using a modest recording rig that we have in Roscommon, then we spent a bit of time in Mayo. Then we took those demos to Donegal to Tommy McLaughlin’s studio; he’s the guitarist with Villagers. He has a studio called Attaca Audio, quite a bit outside Letterkenny. Once we had it tracked with him, we brought the stuff back to Dublin and then we recorded strings in a church in Rathgar. Then we took the whole shebang over to Ben Hillier in Moloko studios in London. He mixed for us and put the finishing touches on it.”That’s a lot of to-ing and fro-ing to make a record. Does Conall feel it was worthwhile?“There was a lot of work, to be sure, to pull it all together but we’re definitely happy with how it sounds,” he says. “Although the process was quite a protracted one, it was enjoyable.”
