The award-winning musical, Over the Rainbow, based on the life of singer and guitarist Eva Cassidy, will be performed in Galway next Monday, November 3.

Nicole Faraday – of Emmerdale Farm and Bad Girls – takes on the role of Eva, while County Down-born singer Rose-Marie plays Barbara Cassidy, Eva’s mother.

Eva Cassidy was a virtual unknown at the time of her death in 1996, aged just 33. Yet, just four years later following extensive airplay by Terry Wogan, her jazz and blues renditions became a sensation, with her album topping the UK charts.

Over the Rainbow follows Eva’s life from her humble beginnings, via dramatic scenes and live renditions of her music, including Somewhere Over the Rainbow, which is the song most associated with her.  Fields of Gold, Songbird, Autumn Leaves, and Kathy’s Song also feature in the piece which contains original footage from Eva Cassidy’s life.

Over the Rainbow was first performed in 2004 and since then, it has enjoyed sell-out performances and standing ovations in Ireland, the UK and mainland Europe.

It will be performed at Town Hall Theatre next Monday, November 3, at 8pm. Tickets are available from the box office on 091-569777 or online at http://tht.ie and are €22/20.
