Mrs Bucket will be ‘Keeping Up Appearances’ at the Town Hall

The woman who is possibly best known as Hyacinth Bucket in the TV series Keeping Up Appearances will talk about her life in musical theatre at the Town Hall Theatre on Monday next, September 14.
Patricia Routledge will be instantly recognisable as the middle class snob from the hit TV show from the early 1990s, but she has many more string to her bow: not many people know that she trained not only as an actress but also as a singer and had considerable experience and success in musical theatre, both in the UK and in the US.
Her many awards include a Tony for her Broadway performance in the Styne-Harburg musical Darling of the Day and a Laurence Olivier Award for her performance in Leonard Bernstein’s Candide.
On Monday next she will recall this part of her career in a conversation with writer and broadcaster Edward Seckerson. Tickets cost €25 and are available from the box office or at www.tht.ie.
Later in the week, a play by Mikel Murfi will be staged for two nights at the city venue. The Man In The Woman’s Shoes follows the ageing Pat Farnon as he walks the five miles from his small white cottage to town and back to run some errands.
The play is set in October 1978, just after the death of Pope John Paul I, and is brought to the stage by Loco and Reckless Proiducitons., Tickets cost €12/€15 and are available from the box office or www.tht.ie.
