Metal tribute night to recall head-banging days of ‘92

In 1992, Guns N’ Roses and Metallica embarked on a stadium tour that took them across the United States and Canada. Although both bands still tour to this day, ’92 was something of a creative peak for both band. Metallica were riding high on the success of Metallica (the so-called ‘Black Album’), while Guns N’ Roses had released the multi-million selling records Use Your Illusion I & II.
This tour will be celebrated by a winning double in Monroe’s Live on Friday week, May 25. Galway-based Metallica fans Whiplash will be taking on the work of the metallers, while the Dublin-based Abuse Your Illusion will play the songs of Axl Rose and co.
Whiplash are Martyn Weesjes (vocals/guitar), John Cullen (lead guitar), Mad Maud (bass) and Brendan Kenny (drums). They first started jamming on Metallica songs in the late ’90s, but Whiplash only became a going concern in 2013.
They draw on classic Metallica albums like Kill ‘Em All and Ride The Lightning, while also featuring the massive commercial success of Metallica.
Guns N’ Roses were a huge hit at Slane last year, and there is now talk of the full original line up doing a world tour. But given that a ticket to see either Metallica or Guns N’ Roses would be at least €100, the €15 admission for this tribute show is pretty good value!
Doors 9pm.
