Jon Kenny of d’Unbelievables fame and Mary McEvoy, who played Biddy on RTÉ’s long-running rural drama, Glenroe, will take to the stage of Galway’s Town Hall this Friday and Saturday night, May 15 and 16, to present John B Keane’s work, The Matchmaker.

It’s a drama with which McEvoy is well familiar, as she previously performed in it alongside her old Glenroe partner, Mick Lally, and has also appeared in it with Des Keogh. This time she has teamed up with Limerick man Kenny, who has carved out a reputation as a fine actor as well as a comedian. His roles include Bull McCabe in the Abbey production of Keane’s epic, The Field; he also appeared in Martin McDonagh's The Lonesome West with Druid Theatre and he was nominated for an Irish Times award for his role in Dylan Thomas’ Under Milk Wood.

In the The Matchmaker Kenny and McEvoy play a multitude of roles as they dramatise the efforts of Dicky Mick Dicky O’Connor to make matches for the lonely and lovelorn from all parts of the country.

The drama is based on Keane’s novella, Letters of a County Matchmaker and features his trademark wit and insight into the lives of rural Ireland in an era before mobile phones and the internet.

The Matchmaker will be presented this Friday and Saturday, May 15 and 16 at 8pm and tickets are€20/€18. Booking at 091-569777, online at tht.ie and at the box office.
