Máirtín goes ‘outside the box’ with unique Irish Memory Orchestra

Galway accordion legend Máirtín O'Connor is joining Dave Flynn's Irish Memory Orchestra for the group’s Autumn tour, which kicks off in Ennis this Friday night, October 5.
The concert will be in Glór, starting at 8pm, and will include Inside the Box: Outside the Box, a suite of Máirtín’s tunes orchestrated by Dave Flynn. There will also be orchestral songs, arranged by Dave and lyricist Pádraic Ó Beirn sung by Corkonians Róisín Donohoe and Niamh Varian-Barry.
Flynn's much-loved Clare Concerto, a commission by Clare Arts Office, will also be performed, bringing the audience on an exciting and moving journey around the landmarks and musicians of Clare.
Dave Flynn's Irish Memory Orchestra is unique in being the only orchestra in the Western world to perform exclusively by memory. Dublin-born, Galway-based Dave is a composer, arranger and guitarist whose PhD, from the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, was on the topic of Traditional Irish Music: A Path to New Music.
Through his unique 20-strong orchestra, made up of Celtic horns, strings, winds, pipes, reeds and a swinging rhythm section, Irish music has embarked on new and exciting directions.
For this tour, Máirtín O’Connor’s dazzling accordion playing is the icing on the cake.
