Historical figures come to life in Ballynahinch theatrical events

Connemara’s Ballynahinch Castle will host two special evenings of theatre on Sunday, January 19, and Sunday, January 26.
Following two sell-out years, the hotel is delighted to welcome back Richard ‘Humanity Dick’ Martin on January 19, in the acclaimed one-man show, Humanity Dick: A Tale of Beasts and Bullets. Written and is performed by Sean Leonard, this is a lively journey through the many adventures of Humanity Dick. During the late 18th and early 19th centuries, the Galway-born MP who called Ballynahinch home, was a famous duellist, a cuckolded husband, a bankrupt, an exile, and the man who founded the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. That’s only for starters, as is captured in Seán’s show, which was hailed when it premiered at the 2016 Galway Fringe Festival and which has since been revived for successful performances in Clifden, Ballynahinch, Galway City and further afield.
On January 26, Renvyle’s Curlew Theatre Company will present The Muse & Mister Yeats, ‘a play for voices’. Performed by Tegolin Knowland and Seán Coyne, it was written and directed by poet Eamon Grennan, who is former Dexter M Ferry Professor of English at Vassar College in the US. The Muse & Mister Yeats celebrates the women with which W B Yeats was romantically involved and recalls some of the poetry they inspired. It was previously performed at Ballynahinch and at the National Library of Ireland as well as at the 2019 Clifden Arts Festival where it was a sell-out success.
