The Galway Film Fleadh, which takes place from July 10-15, will host masterclasses with actor Andrew Scott; writer and director Madeleine Olnek and screenwriter Ed Solomon. The Masterclasses offer a unique chance to learn from experts in their respective fields, in an intimate engaging environment.

Acclaimed Irish actor Andrew Scott, who has starred in a diverse array of projects across film, TV and theatre will deliver the Actors’ Masterclass on Saturday, July 14. Andrew’s recent work in film includes Denial, starring alongside Rachel Weisz and Timothy Spall; Spectre from the James Bond franchise; Alice Through the Looking Glass with Johnny Depp, and Ken Loach’s Jimmy’s Hall, as well as his acclaimed role in hit British film Pride for which he received a BAFTA for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. Andrew is probably best known on television for his role as Moriarty in the international hit series Sherlock, for which he was awarded the BAFTA award for Best Supporting Actor.

His forthcoming film, Steel Country will screen on Friday, July 13, as part of this year’s  Fleadh.

Director and writer Madeleine Olnek will be the subject of the Directors Masterclass, taking place on Thursday, July 12. Madeleine’s films have been nominated at SXSW, Sundance and Seattle International Film Festival, among others. The Fleadh will host a screening of her latest feature Wild Nights with Emily – a comedy with absurdist leanings, focusing on the secret life of poet Emily Dickinson –  on Wednesday, July 11.

Using Dickinson’s letters and poems, the film paints a much sunnier portrait of the poet than the more familiar one of a reclusive spinster terrified of publication. Instead, it imagines a lively woman forced to hide a lifelong love affair, whose work was mostly rejected by a literary establishment that would embrace it after her death.
