Galway band Dott will release their eagerly awaited debut album, Swoon next Tuesday November 5 on Graveface Records US.

The four-piece is led by songwriter Anna McCarthy (vocals/guitar) with Laura Finnegan (bass/vocals) Miriam Donohue (guitar/vocals) and Tony Higgins (drums).

Formed in January 2012, Dott had a busy first year with a live appearance on The Late Late Show, slots at  Electric Picnic 2012, the Hard Working Class Heroes Showcase,   the Camden Crawl 20 and Indiependence, as well as a 2FM session  for Dan Hegarty. Dott recently made their US debut at New York’s independent music venue, the Cake Shop.

The band’s latest single, Leave Tonight is a declaration from a couple quitting their humdrum jobs and heading off on their travels while Let’s Do It is an unabashed love song. Some of Dott’s songs marked a change in style for Anna McCarthy, but she’s proud of them.

“I’ve been writing songs since I was 16, and I was always like ‘I’m not going to write any of these soppy love songs’,” she says. “I think I just let my all inhibitions go with this band. Some of the songs have really simple ideas behind them. It’s really about the melodies, that’s the most important thing.”

Fortunately for Dott, there’s an abundance of them. Hear them for yourself when they play the city’s Róisín Dubh on Saturday, November 9 with support from Oh Boland!
