Damien Dempsey show and celebration album

This month sees the release of The Essential Damien Dempsey, and the hugely popular Dubliner marks its launch with a show in Róisín Dubh on Thursday, February 27.

The album is a celebration of Dempsey’s career so far, spanning six studio albums and 15 years. It will include gems like It’s All Good, Patience and Bustin’ Outta Here, as well as two brand new tracks.

Following the release of the sublime Almighty Love in September 2012, Damien Dempsey embarked on an incredible 12 months. He sold out a St Patrick's Day show at Sydney Opera House and followed that with headline shows across Australia. Last summer, he opened for Bruce Springsteen at Kilkenny’s Nowlan Park and he also played his own headline show at Dublin's Iveagh Gardens.  That same month he co-headlined a Galway Arts Festival show with Glen Hansard, a memorable evening that ended with the two Dubliners leading the crowd in a rousing version of The Auld Triangle.

Dempsey’s shows are always impassioned affairs – he doesn’t do ‘mediocre’. His large fan base is due, in part, to the sense of ‘uplift’ that he tries to bring to a crowd.

“You can do that with lyrics and melody, and a song, and when you get them singing,” is how he feels about performing.

Doors 9pm, tickets €30/€28 members.
