Cúirt staying true to its heart as it announces first event of 2022
Authors Emer McLysaght and Sarah Breen who have struck a chord with their Oh My God, What a Complete Aisling series, will join forces with novelist and blogger Bethany Rutter for an event entitled ‘True to Your Heart’ at 5pm on Saturday, April 9, for the 2022 Cúirt Festival of Literature.
Cúirt will run from Monday, April 4, to Sunday April 10, with its usual literary mix, including stories, poetry, ideas and discussions.
While full details of the festival won’t be revealed until early next year, ‘True to Your Heart’ is an early announcement and tickets for the reading are now on sale.
In Aisling in the City, the most recent book from Breen and McLysaght, a surprise job offer brings the heroine to New York, where she samples the Big Apple lifestyle. As she enters a new phase, the authors explore how Aisling’s American dream compares to the sense of community and belonging she feels in Ballygobard.
London journalist and podcaster Bethany Rutter has gained a huge following for her YA novels titles Melt My Heart and No Big Deal. Now, she has turned to adult fiction, with her debut book, Welcome to your Life, being published by Harper Collins early next year.
Its 29-year-old heroine Serena Mills has a job and a house and she’s shortly due to marry the man she’s been dating for a decade – in short, this is a woman who has everything she wants, or so she’s told. But, in the novel’s opening pages, Serena throws it all away. She realises she has been simply settling for convenience and begins searching to discover what and who she really wants.
Tickets are now on sale for what Cúirt’s artistic director Sasha du Buyl has billed as a “big-hearted and life-affirming event” on April 9.
Sasha explains that Cúirt will run a ‘sliding scale’ pilot project when it comes to ticket prices next year.
