Comedy Carnival takes centre stage
Galway Comedy Carnival rocked into town in style this week with the beautiful Spiegeltent Jean Louis, which will host variety of shows featuring top Irish and international talent from now until Monday evening. Performers confirmed to take part in a range of mixed bills include Al Porter, Andrew Maxwell, David McSavage, Jason Byrne, Abandoman and PJ Gallagher among others. The legendary closing gala on Bank Holiday Monday at 8pm will be hosted by Karl Spain.
The colourful1930s Spiegeltent has been relocated to Eyre Square from last year’s base in the Claddagh, and now sits between the Browne Doorway and the Galway Hooker fountain.
‘With our main venue and festival hub front and centre in Eyre Square, we wanted to showcase the sheer volume of comedic talent we have booked, and that’s why all our Spiegeltent shows are mixed bills,” says Festival director Kevin Healy. “That way you get to experience 20 minutes of the very best material from the very funniest comics. It’s win-win really. They give everything they have and you don’t get too tired of any of them. Even if you do, there’ll be another one on shortly!’
Top performers will line up twice daily from now until Sunday, for shows at 7pm and 9.30pm. Podcasts, Laughter Yoga and Comedy Showcases will fill up the weekend lunchtime slots. All shows are fully seated and the comfortable tent contains fully stocked bars.
Tickets for the remaining Spiegeltent shows are selling fast. They include a selection of stellar names such as Al Porter, Andrew Maxwell, David McSavage, Jason Byrne, Abandoman and PJ Gallagher amongst many illustrious others. The line-up for Monday’s closing show remains secret as yet, but if previous years are anything to go by, it should be an absolute riot.
