Music for Galway’s popular Lunchtime Series resumes next Thursday, February 11, with a 50-minute performance from the ensemble Musici Ireland.

The lunchtime performances, which are a little less formal than Music for Galway’s evening shows, take place in the city centre, in Hotel Meyrick’s Oyster Bar.

Musici Ireland’s artistic director and principal violist, Beth McNinch, formed the group in early 2012 to create a platform for herself and talented friends to perform chamber music. She felt that there was a gap in the market for an ensemble of this type in Ireland.

Musici Ireland is a multi-ensemble group, which make it very versatile. Members perform in formations from duo all the way up to chamber orchestra size, which allows them to programme very interesting and unusual concerts in venues of any size.

For next Thursday’s concert, Beth will be joined by the leader of the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, British violinist Helena Wood, and by the Irish cellist Gráinne Hope. Together they will perform string trios by Schubert and Boccherini and a Serenade for Strings by Hungarian composer Dohnanyi.

Admission to the concert is €5. For those with more time, there’s an option of a concert/lunch combo for €12. This includes the concert and a soup and sandwich special which people can have either before or after the performance in the Meyrick’s Gaslight Brasserie. Pre-booking for the combo is essential and booking for the concert is highly recommended.
