Artist Pádraic in shows work in Sligo and Sofia

Carraroe artist Pádraic Reaney is currently exhibiting his work at an annual print exhibition in Bulgaria. He’s one of the featured artists in the 16th Lessedra World Art Print Annual – Mini-Print 2017 in Sofia.
Pádraic is showing two Giclee prints, Inishark No 1 and Inishark No 2 in the show, which opened last week in the Bulgarian capital. Both pieces are from the project he is working on about the deserted houses on the North Connemara island of Inishark, which was depopulated in 1960. He first started doing drawing and colour studies of the houses on the island for this project in 2002 and has visited the island many times since. He’s now using this information for painting and graphics for an upcoming exhibition in the City’s Kenny Art Gallery in October 2018. The show in Sofia will run until September.
Closer to home, Pádraic has been invited to show a painting from his Crazy Jane series in a group exhibition, Crazy Jane, in Sligo’s Hamilton Gallery. The third annual Crazy Jane exhibition opened on June 13, runs until September 2 and features the work of 92 artists from all over Ireland, who bring their own response to Yeats’ most potent and visceral female creation, Crazy Jane. The themes of culture, sexuality and religion that spurred Yeats into writing these poems almost 85 years ago are explored in a new way in this show.
