Wheelchair hurling exhibition set for Galway City this weekend

Event to be held in the Kingfisher Arena in the University of Galway
A wheelchair hurling exhibition will take place in the Kingfisher hall at the University of Galway tomorrow (Saturday) from 1pm to 4pm as part of the European Academy of Childhood-onset Disability Annual Congress in Galway
Enable Ireland and the GAAForALL committee have joined forces for the initiative. Wheelchair hurling is played six-a-side indoors and continues to grow in popularity nationwide: the sport now features an interprovincial championship, where juvenile and adult players compete for the All-Ireland title, which was won by Munster in 2025.
Players compete using a manual wheelchair, a hurley, and a helmet. Following the exhibition game, attendees will have the opportunity to take part in a ‘Come and Try’ session, with all necessary equipment provided on the day.
"This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the inclusivity of our games and the opportunities that exist for children and young people with disabilities to participate in Gaelic Games," said Tanya-Roberts Browne, chairperson of the National GAAForALL committee.
"It also gives us a chance to raise awareness of wheelchair hurling and to highlight the incredible work that has already been taking place around the country," she said.
