United set for crunch tie with Students

THERE is a fine line between cockiness and confidence, but Galway United seem to have found their balance in walking that particular tightrope after a run of results that has injected a bit of life into what had been until recently a disappointing season.

Tipped as title favourites at the start of the season, John Caulfield’s side huffed and puffed their way through the first round of games, winning just twice in eight games on the pitch before they were humiliated 4-0 by Shelbourne in Tolka Park.

That put to bed any notions United might have had of challenging for the league, but there was a blessing in disguise on the horizon with the mid-eason break falling immediately after that game.

The break gave Caulfield, his management team, and the squad a chance to hit the reset button, and what a reset it has been, with three wins on the bounce since the return to action, two of which were achieved with the accompaniment of a clean sheet, meaning the Tribesmen head to Dublin this Friday full of a confidence that has been hard earned for what promises to be a cracking clash with UCD (7.45pm).
