Kilkerrin/Clonberne run riot again in second round of championship

There were wins for Kilkerrin/Clonberne, Salthill/Knocknacarra, Annaghdown, and Corofin in round two of the Galway Senior Ladies Gaelic Football club championships at the weekend.
Corofin and Kilkerrin/Clonberne remain the only unbeaten teams in the championship, while Claregalway and Dunmore MacHales are yet to register a win.
There is a break this weekend in the championship before the final round of group action takes place on Friday September 18.
Group 1
Kilkerrin Clonberne 4-22
Moycullen 0-1
County and All-Ireland champions Kilkerrin Clonberne continue to set the standard in the Galway senior championship, with the North Galway outfit easing to a comprehensive 33-point victory over Moycullen at home last Sunday.
Ailish Morrissey and Lynsey Noone combined for 4-6 between them for the reigning All-Ireland champions, while Eva Noone, Niamh Divilly and Caitlin Boyle contributed a further 0-13 between them.
After two games in the championship, Kilkerrin Clonberne have looked impressive at both ends of the pitch. They have conceded just 0-2 while racking up an outstanding tally of 5-37, underlining their strength in both defence and attack.
It was a difficult afternoon for Moycullen, with Katie Carter getting their only score of the game. They will now turn their attention to their final group fixture against Claregalway, where they will be hoping to respond.
Salthill Knocknacarra 1-11
Claregalway 0-13
Salthill/Knocknacarra secured their first win of the Galway senior championship with a narrow one-point victory over Claregalway last Saturday evening.
Laura Kelly, Lauren O’Donnell, Brona Garvey and Siobhán Divilly were all on target for the Seasiders, with Kelly’s goal proving decisive as they bounced back from their opening-round defeat to Moycullen.
Galway senior footballer Kate Slevin was Claregalway’s standout performer, contributing an impressive 0-10, but her efforts were not enough as last year’s county finalists came up just short.
Claregalway are still searching for their first win of this year’s championship and Jimmy Gavin’s side now face a crucial final group game against Moycullen, knowing they need a positive result to secure their place in the last four.
Group 2
Corofin 3-12
Caltra Cuans 0-9
Corofin made it two wins from two in Group Two with a convincing 12-point victory over last year’s intermediate county champions.
Galway forwards Róisín Leonard and Leanne Coen accounted for 1-6 between them, while Ella Zywczyk chipped in with 1-2 as Corofin maintained their unbeaten start to the championship.
Ciara Murray was Caltra Cuan’s standout performer, finishing with 0-5, but Corofin came out on top to strengthen their position in the group.
Annaghdown 1-12
Dunmore MacHales 1-11
It was a winner-takes-all clash in Cregg last Friday evening, with Annaghdown edging past Dunmore MacHales by the minimum.
Isabel Killilea, Katie Farragher, Alanna Curry and Casey Duggan stepped up for Martin O’Neill’s charges, scoring 1-9 between them as Annaghdown claimed a vital victory.
Rebecca Noone and Sophie Healy did their best to rescue something for Dunmore MacHales, but they came up just short and now face a crucial final group game.
Dunmore MacHales will need a positive result in their last fixture if they are to avoid relegation to intermediate football.
