AT underage level, a gap appears to be developing between the Munster and Leinster hurling championships. Galway were the last Leinster team to win the All-Ireland minor hurling championship in 2020. Meanwhile, a county from Munster has won nine of the last ten All-Ireland U-20 titles.

However, there’s no doubt that the Galway minor hurlers got plenty of tests in the Leinster MHC heading into the All-Ireland semi-final where Limerick ultimately proved too strong, cruising to an 11-point win.

“We had a lot of tough games in Leinster. Dublin, Kilkenny, Wexford and Laois, all these teams, we had plenty of tough games. There was no games that we won easy, I think we were well battle hardened,” said Galway minor hurling manager Kenneth Burke.

“We were just that little bit off, our intensity level, our touch in the tackle and our use of the ball in the tackle was just a little bit off. We got turned over and we got punished every time, when we turned them over we didn’t punish them. I think they were the main differences today.”

However, Burke’s side can still look back on this season with plenty of positives after winning the Leinster title this year thanks to an epic comeback against Kilkenny.

"They are a great bunch of guys, they really gelled together, it’s the first game we lost. I said to the lads there, it’s disappointing, we didn’t perform, we didn’t get to the level we needed to get too. Limerick didn’t let us at the same time,” added Burke.
