Galway GAA has announced that the Garth Brooks will play two concerts at Pearse Stadium in Salthill next summer

Garth Brooks will play two concerts at Pearse Stadium next summer, Galway GAA revealed in a highly anticipated announcement on social media this morning.

Yesterday, it published teasers showing music gear being wheeled into a number of venues across the country with a sticker on the side that read “special delivery”. It promised more details at 8am today.

This morning, it was revealed that country music superstar Garth Brooks will be playing a series of concerts at five GAA venues across the country next May. He will take to the stage at Pearse Stadium on May 29 and May 30.

“Ireland, we’re coming to you this time,” Brooks says in a video posted on Galway GAA’s social media profiles today. Ticket information and on-sale details will follow.

He will also play at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh in Cork; Nowlan Park in Kilkenny; TUS Gaelic Grounds in Limerick and Boucher Road Playing Fields in Belfast.

Brooks sold out multiple shows at Croke Park in 2022 after previously cancelling concerts at the venue.

It is not the first time Pearse Stadium has hosted a music concert, with Ed Sheeran playing back-to-back sell out nights on the pitch in May 2018.

Black Eyed Peas played in 2022 and people of a certain age will remember the wonderful washout Westlife concert in 2008.

James Gavin of event management company Grooveyard managed to persuade the Black Eyed Peas – the US group behind ‘I Gotta Feeling’, which spent twelve weeks at Number 1 in Ireland – to play their only Irish gig after eleven years in Pearse Stadium.

Back in 2019, County Galway GAA Treasurer at the time Michael Burke said after the Ed Sheeran gig that there would be no concert in Pearse “unless there is a good payday for the GAA”.

In all, Galway GAA received a modest €119,085 return from the two Ed Sheeran concerts in May – although a portion of this included the installation of a new CCTV system, which was understood to be a requirement for the Ed Sheeran gigs.

By contrast, Cork County Board reportedly received in the region of €1 million from the Sheeran concerts in Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

American country superstar Zach Bryan played Páirc Uí Chaoimh last summer while Bruce Springsteen entertained Nowlan Park in 2024 also.
