Galway United handed home tie with Bray Wanderers in FAI Cup

Tie to be played on the weekend ending Sunday August 16
Galway United’s reward for seeing off Leinster Senior League side Crumlin United in the second Round of the FAI Cup last weekend is a home tie with First Division side Bray Wanderers.
Goals from Matty Wolfe (2), Francely Lomboto, and Stephen Walsh sealed a comfortable 4-0 win for the Tribesmen in Pearse Stadium on Saturday, and they will have to be happy with another home tie in the Last 16, especially against a team a tier below them.
Bray currently sit second in the First Division table, a distant 17 points behind runaway leaders, Cork City. While United are at home for a second successive round, the Seagulls will be on the road once again, having booked their place in the Last 16 with a 1-0 win over Finn Harps in Ballybofey on Friday last.
It is the fourth time the sides have been drawn together in the cup. The two sides met in the quarter-finals in the 1989/90 competition, with Bray running out 1-0 winners in the Carlisle Grounds before going on to lift the trophy.
United succeeded the Wicklow side as cup champions the following year, but their defence of the cup ended at the first hurdle when again losing 1-0 in the Carlisle Grounds in the 1991/92 competition.
However, it turned to be a case of third time lucky for United in 2008 - though at the second time of asking - when they met at the quarter-final stage in 2008, goals from Jonathan Keane and Jay O’Shea sealing a 2-0 win for United in Bray in a replay, after the original game finished 1-1 in the then named Terryland Park, with Marc McCulloch scoring for United in that initial draw.
The stand-out tie from the draw for the Last 16 was the final pairing out of the hat, with St Patrick’s Athletic set to host Shamrock Rovers in the only all-Premier Division tie.
The full draw is as follows: Bohemians v Longford Town, College Corinthians v Drogheda United, Galway United v Bray Wanderers, Dundalk v Castlebar Celtic, UCD v Derry City, Waterford v Athlone Town, Sligo Rovers v Kerry FC, St Patrick’s Athletic v Shamrock Rovers.
