THE GALWAY senior hurlers season ended in disappointment after the Tribesmen were defeated by Limerick 1-29 to 1-18 in the All-Ireland final at Croke Park on Sunday .

Limerick proved to be a level above Galway at Croke Park, with the Tribesmen unable to match their opponents' relentless intensity or find the fluency that had characterised much of their season.

The Shannonsiders reclaimed the Liam MacCarthy Cup for the first time since 2023. Limerick consistently found scores with greater ease and, after taking control, they cruised to a convincing victory.

While the defeat will be a bitter disappointment for Galway, Donoghue's side can still reflect on a season of significant progress. The men in maroon and white regained the Leinster title and reached their first All-Ireland senior hurling final since 2018, laying strong foundations to build on in the years ahead. Given the age profile of this Galway team, the future of Galway hurling looks extremely bright.

The Galway senior hurling team will be met by tens of thousands of fans across Ballinasloe and Salthill on Monday as the county welcomes their heroes home. The team are expected to leave Dublin after midday heading for Ballinasloe sometime between 3pm and 5pm.The team will then travel to Pearse Stadium with an expected arrival time estimated to be between 6pm and 8pm.
