WORK ON CONNEMARA POWER LINE TO BEGIN IN NEW YEAR

The ESB has confirmed work will begin next year on the development of a major new power line into Connemara.

It follows an Bord Pleanála's decision this morning to give the go ahead for a 110 Kilovolt power line from Galway city as far as Screebe.

The need for the new power supply to Connemara was identified by the ESB as far back as 1996 but the company has experienced many problems in trying to get planning permission over the past five years.
