Met Eireann has issued a weather update for Saturday and Sunday

It’s the return of the R word we all hate to hear when it comes to weather as rain, rain and more rain is forecast over the weekend for Galway and most of Ireland.

Friday will be the best of the lot but even that will see light drizzles here and there as the summer weather we’re more used to comes back with a bang.

It will be cloudy Friday morning with the odd patch of light rain but will become drier and brighter throughout the day.

Sunshine in the afternoon will turn hazy by evening time as clouds begin to grow with temperatures moving between 17 and 24C.

The night time will see cloud spread quickly as scattered outbreaks of rain move across the west with temperatures of 12C and light winds.

Here’s how Met Eireann are forecasting the rest of the weekend, look away now if you don’t like the R word.

Saturday: “Tomorrow will be a cloudy day with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle spreading southeastwards across the country through the morning and afternoon. The rain will be heaviest in the west and north, becoming lighter and patchier as it moves to other areas.

“Another spell of more persistent rain will move into western parts during the evening. Some hill and coastal mist also. Cooler and breezier than recent days with highest temperatures of 15 to 21 degrees and a moderate and occasionally fresh westerly wind.

Saturday night: “Staying largely cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle, along with hill and coastal mist. Lowest temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees in a moderate to fresh westerly wind.

Sunday: “Cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle at first, but becoming drier with occasional breaks in the cloud as the day goes on. Highest temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees, warmest in the southeast. Breezy with a moderate to fresh westerly wind.”

Sunday night: “Cloud and patchy rain or drizzle will continue in the north and near Atlantic coasts but it'll be dry with clear spells in other areas. Lowest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees with westerly winds easing light.”
