An end is in sight to a long running saga over an unfinished estate in Barna after the developers this week confirmed that they had reached agreement with Galway County Council on terms that provide for the completion of long-awaited road upgrade works.

Denalibrook Limited said that the agreement also includes the delivery of five homes for social housing- and the company has also facilitated the purchase of lands by the Council to enable the future extension of the Barna Inner Relief Road.

This will bring an end to a long saga that previously saw Galway County Council issue an Enforcement Notice on the developer of An Maolán in Bearna two years ago, saying they had failed to comply with several planning conditions.

Although the first homes were sold as far back as 2019, some works still remain outstanding – including the road serving the estate.

Now Deputy John Connolly has revealed that the local authority has reached agreement with the developer with a view to completing the outstanding works.

Denalibrook Limitedis a 50/50 joint venture between Edward Capital, where Galway developer Gerry Barrett is Managing Director, and Farcone Limited, led by Foxrock-based directors Pat and Fergal O’Sullivan and majority owned by Ontario-based Mary Cahill.

Pat O’Sullivan, Director of Denalibrook Limited, said they were pleased to have reached an agreement with Galway County Council.

"It provides for the completion of the Creagán Road upgrade, the delivery of five new social homes, and lands to support the delivery of the Barna Inner Relief Road following the recent funding announcement,” he said.

In granting the original permission, planners imposed a condition on Denalibrook Limited that they had to complete realignment works on the public road.

But a dispute had arisen between the Council and the developer over the extent of the works covered by this condition.
