One Galway nursing home was non-compliant in ten of the 14 regulations inspected

Two Galway nursing homes were found to have 'high levels of non compliance for regulations’.

According to the new inspection report in the Irish Medical Times published by HIQA, failings across these nursing homes were in areas such as staffing, residents’ rights and food and medicines with HIQA finding that these homes “failed residents’ needs”.

In total, there were six nursing homes who were ruled non-compliant in between eight and ten regulations under the Health Act.

Rosemount House Nursing Home in Gort was non-compliant in ten of 14 regulations inspected.

The 35 resident facility was inspected in February and failed in areas such as record-keeping, management and fire precautions.

The HIQA report stated: “Overall, the findings of this inspection were that the management systems in place to monitor and oversee the service did not ensure that care was delivered to a high standard, and that the residents were safe.

“In addition, the registered provider had not fully implemented a compliance plan, submitted following a previous inspection of the centre in September 2025, in relation to premises, fire precautions, records, governance and management, and residents’ rights.”

Furthermore, An Teaghlach Uilinn Nursing Home in Kilrainey, Moycullen was found to be non-compliant in eight regulations including residents’ rights, protection, complaints procedures and managing challenging behaviour.

HIQA’s findings released this week were part of a report into 50 inspections across residential centres for older people.
