GALWAY GAA officials have scotched widespread rumours that Padraic Joyce is stepping down as senior football team manager.

Social media was abuzz this week with speculation that Joyce had handed in his resignation after seven years in charge of the Galway footballers. Pressure has increased on the former dual All-Ireland winning player after Galway tumbled out of the championship at the quarter-final stage to Dublin last month.

Following their disappointing exit to Meath in 2025, there is now a mood for change in the county, but it appears unlikely that Galway GAA will move against him. Joyce has still two more years to serve of his latest term in charge and intimated after the loss to Dublin that he was preparing to continue.

Along with his 2001 All-Ireland winning teammates, Joyce will be back in Croke Park on Sunday for Galway’s Silver Jubilee celebrations, but it will be a poignant occasion following the sad passing of Paul Clancy recently.
