We have been so used to the sun but the lashings of rain are forecast to come back

Met Eireann is forecasting three days of horrible weather after our two glorious weeks of sunshine.

The National Forecaster is promising rain for Friday night right through until Monday with persistent showers the order of the weekend.

Thursday will still be showing signs of the summer as temperatures stay around the low 20s mark with it generally warmer in the south of the country as cloud spoils the best of it for the rest of us.

Thursday night will remain cloudy with patches of drizzle developing across the country as temperatures drop to 10C.

Here’s what Met Eireann is saying for the rest of the week:

Friday: Tomorrow morning will be mainly cloudy with isolated patches of drizzle, most likely in the north and west. Some sunny spells will develop through the afternoon, becoming hazier by evening. Highest temperatures of 17 to 24 degrees, warmest in the south and southeast, with a light to moderate west to northwest breeze

Saturday: “Cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle, most frequent in the west and north. Some hill and coastal mist also. Highest temperatures of 15 to 22 degrees, warmest in the east and southeast. Breezier than recent days with a moderate to occasionally fresh westerly wind.”

Sunday: “Cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle at first, but becoming drier with occasional breaks in the cloud as the day goes on. Highest temperatures of 15 to 21 degrees, warmest in the southeast, with a moderate westerly wind.”

Monday: “Some early sunny spells in the south and east, but otherwise it'll be a largely cloudy day with rain or drizzle developing in many areas. The rain is forecast to be most persistent in the north and west and parts of the southeast may remain dry. Highest temperatures ranging between 17 degrees in the northwest and 23 degrees in the southeast, with a moderate to fresh southwesterly wind.”
