Tuam supermarket owner in new bid to keep carpark

Galway Bay fm newsroom - A new application for controversial works at a Tuam retail development has been submitted.

Joe and Helen O' Toole previously submitted an application for planning permission to keep car parking, lighting, fencing and other works at Townparks, Tuam.

However that application has been withdrawn and a new application has been submitted.

The second application from Joe and Helen O' Toole is similiar to the first application.

It relates to car parking, footpaths, lighting, fencing, a covered walkway, alterations to the access and exit route and extensions to the supermarket complex in Tuam.

County planners had requested further information when the initial application was submitted.

They wanted the O' Tooles to confirm that the application would satisfy all the requirements of the Safety Audit.

Planners also wanted more details about the architectural impact of certain aspects of the plans and a landscaping scheme.

A new application to keep all the changes to the supermarket development in Tuam has been submitted to the County Council instead.

However, it has still attracted the same level of opposition as the original application.

Local residents at Palace Fields and surrounding areas, St. Patrick's Primary School and the Sawdoctors', Leo Moran, have all lodged submissions to the plans.

They are concerned about the safety and environmental impact of the changes.

A decision is expected from the County Council in the new few weeks.
