A North-West MEP will meet with transport Minister Leo Varadker this month to discuss the future of the outer city bypass.

Jim Higgins has organised the meeting to discuss funding for the project which most believe will not be part of this year's Government budget.

The bypass is intended to link the R336 in Baile Nua and link with the new N6 Galway to Dublin road, to include a new crossing of the River Corrib.

According to the National Roads Authority, progression of the scheme through the planning phases has been suspended.

Speaking in the European Parliament, MEP Jim Higgins says he is not convinced the bypass will be built.
