The Inspector for Mental Health Services is criticising the transfer of intellectually disabled people from the community back into a pyschiatric institution in Ballinasloe.

Under the plan, the service users will be transferred back into a ward at St. Brigid's Hospital, which dates back to the 1930s.

According to today's Irish Times, the State's mental health watchdog is critical of the transfer.

A report states that it would be unacceptable to move community residents back into an institutional setting.
