Music for Galway in partnership with National Symphony Orchestra Ireland will present ‘A Taste of Cellissimo’ in Leisureland next Thursday, November 12, at 7.30pm.

Featuring leading cellist Daniel Müller-Schott under the baton of acclaimed conductor Anna Rakitina, this concert is designed to whet people's appetite for next May’s Cellissimo festival, which is being organised by Music for Galway.

Next Thursday's programme includes Elgar’s moving ‘Cello Concerto’, Sibelius’s monumental ‘Seventh Symphony’, Grieg’s colourful ‘First Peer Gynt Suite’ and the Irish premiere of American composer Jessie Montgomery’s ‘Overture’, in an evening that promises “energy, tenderness, majestic power and drama”.

‘The New York Times’ has praised Daniel Müller-Schott for his “intense expressivity” and “bold, fiery technique”. His first experience of Elgar’s cello concerto was when he heard a recording by the legendary Jacqueline du Pré – and it went on to become part of his repertoire. Daniel previously played with the NSOI in Galway in 2014, as part of Music for Galway's Cellissimo season (before it become a festival).

Anna Rakitina has directed orchestras including the Chicago, Boston and San Francisco Symphonies, the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic and Gewandhausorchester Leipzig.

Tickets for next Thursday's concert are from €15 to €30, at www.musicforgalway.ie or 091 705962. For more on the Cellissimo festival, go to musicforgalway.ie and sign up to the mailing list.
