Galway city traders have hit back at recent criticism of a proposed Christmas market for the city this year.

The Galway City Business Association is hoping to attract 300,000 shoppers into the city for a German-style Christmas market in Eyre Square.

However the Mayor of Galway Michael Crowe expressed reservations about the idea last week.

It's proposed to invite a hundred market stalls into Eyre Square from November until December 19th.

Chairperson of the Galway City Business Association Paul Faller believes it is a "colossal opportunity" for Galway.
