'Switch off' follows sublime first half show

A PASSING knowledge of bipolar mood swings would have been a distinct advantage in trying to make sense out of this Division One National Football League tie at Pearse Stadium on Sunday. When Galway were on their 'high’ for almost the entire first half, this was heady stuff with free flowing moves and a flurry of crisply struck scores. However just as the home fans in the crowd – estimated to be in the region of 3,500 – were preparing to embark on an early St. Patrick’s Day party, Galway stopped playing and it was nearly all Donegal for the second half.It might take a Stephen Fry to diagnose the causes of the second half 'low’, although the fact that Galway led at halftime by 1-11 to 0-2 was surely a contributory factor to the anti-climax which was to follow the break.
