Date Published: 25-Jun-2008
A major fish stock survey is currently being carried out on Lough Corrib by the Central and Western Fisheries Board. The survey, which is the first undertaken since 1996, will give a complete picture of the extent of fish stocks in the lake.Fisheries Crews are using a range of techniques for sampling the fish stocks including nets and sonar technology.People are advised that any nets associated with the survey will be marked by orange buoys with the letters CFB clearly displayed. The Fisheries Board is asking that these nets not be disturbed during the course of the survey which is expected to be complete early next week.CEO of the Western Regional Fisheries Board, Greg Forde, says the findings of the Lough Corrib survey will be published at a later date.
