SUPPLY OF TURF FOR AFFECTED GALWAY TRUFCUTTERS

The State is adding to the compensation package for owners of protected bogs who must cease cutting turf, many of whom are in Galway

In April, the Government announced payments of up to €15,000 to individual turf cutters.

However this evening Heritage Minister Jimmy Deenihan announced the alternative element will involve a delivery of turf from the State every year.

The Minister said he had instructed his Department to include this as an element in the compensation package.
