Ruling on Claregalway Castle means permission must be sought for future events

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Planning permission must now be sought for future events at Claregalway Castle following a ruling by An Bord Pleanála.

The higher planning authority has ruled that the number and duration of events held at the facility last year exceeded limitations and therefore constituted development. The Board could not make a declaration in respect of future events at the site in the absence of specific information  relating to such events. The castle is owned by Dr Eamonn O'Donoghue and is located on the N17 approximately 10 kilometres north of Galway City. The case was referred to ascertain whether or not activities and events staged and to be staged at the historic castle are considered as development or exempted development.
