Roche’s role as Grand Marshall on Costa Blanca

Galway East TD Pete Roche is assured of a sunny St Patrick’s Weekend – because he has been announced as the Grand Marshall for a big Irish ex-pat gathering on Spain’s Costa Blanca.
Deputy Roche is the guest of honour at the St Patrick’s Day Parade in Cabo Roig Spain, which will take place this Sunday, March 15.
This community event brings together residents and visitors from across the Costa Blanca to celebrate Irish culture, music, and community spirit.
The parade has grown each year and attracts a large international audience in excess of 25,000, making it one of the largest St Patrick’s celebrations in mainland Europe.
We are incredibly proud of how our St. Patrick’s Day Parade has grown
The first Cabo Roig St. Patrick’s Day Parade took place in 2011, organised by a small group of local businesses and supported by members of the Irish expatriate community in the area.
The parade kicks off at approximately 3pm from Calle del Mar. Almost 70 groups took part last year including colourful floats, vintage cars, huge array of motorcycles, marching bands and traditional Irish pipers who travel over from Ireland for the event.
There are jugglers, stilt walkers, costumed performers, Irish dancers, Spanish dancers, children’s groups, all of which creates an atmosphere that’s both festive and family friendly.
“We are incredibly proud of how our St. Patrick’s Day Parade has grown,” said parade Secretary Dolores Molloy.
“It’s a day when the entire community comes together in green, welcoming everyone to share in the joy and hospitality Cabo Roig is known for,” she added.
