REPORT ON SPEED DETECTION SIGNAGE FOR CITY

Date Published: 19-Mar-2012
A report is to be prepared on the effectiveness of speed detection signs following a proposal to have them installed in certain areas of the city.
Independent Cllr Donal Lyons has suggested they be introduced at Shangort Road and Bothar Stiofan on a trial basis.
Director of Services Joe Tansey said survey and design work is being carried out on traffic calming for the Shangort Road.
However he argued that speed detection signs are not suitable for the city and mainly exist in areas such as villages on national routes.
He agreed to provide a report on their suitability for the city and its environs but has decribed their usefulnes as "dubious".
