Rehab Enterprises is blaming the economic downturn and poor market conditions for the redundancies of 18 staff at its centre at Parkmore in the city.
The Rehab Group is an independent, not-for-profit organisation which provides training, employment, health and social care for people in Ireland and the U.K.
Rehab Enterprises Galway employs 44 staff for kitting and assembly work for manufacturing businesses and some recycling activities.
A spokesperson for Rehab says the Galway facility will not be closing but affected staff will be provided with redundancy packages which exceed the industry norm.
In a statement to Galway Bay Fm News, Rehab says those who wish to move on to further employment will be given help to in securing other jobs either with the Rehab group or externally.
Councillor Catherine Connolly says it's disappointing that those with disabilities who work at the centre in Parkmore are being let down.
