PROTEST OVER ASHFORD CASTLE RIGHT OF WAY

Date Published: 22-Sep-2011
Hundreds of residents are expected to protest tommorow over the recent closure of a side gate at Ashford Castle in Cong.
The ancillary electronic gate which was used by locals as a "through-way" to access the village was closed at the beginning of the month.
Local residents say they are now forced to use an alternative route which they claim is dangerous and significantly longer.
Galway based Edward Holdings which acquired the castle in 2008 has refused to comment on its reasons for restricting access.
The protest gets underway at 7 o 'clock tomorrow evening at the main entrance to Ashford Castle.
