PROCEDURE TO BE FOLLOWED TO THE LETTER ON GALWAY BAY FISH FARM DECISION

Marine Minister Simon Coveney says his department will follow procedure to the letter when it comes to making a decision on the proposed Galway bay fish farm.
The issue was raised in the Daíl this week where it was revealed over 410 submissions on the plans were made to the Department for agriculture, food and Marine.
Hundreds of protestors took part in a demonstration in the city last weekend to highlight their opposition to the plans.
They claim it could have a negative impact on native salmon and trout smolts, and have also raised concern over the potential dangers of sea lice.
Bord Iascaigh Mhara has applied for the deep sea salmon farming licence around a mile off the coast of Inís Oírr.
It says the facility could generate over 100 million euro worth of exports per anum and create hundreds of jobs.
