PLANS TO DEVELOP VITAL GALWAY ARTERY ON SHAKY GROUND

Plans to develop a vital artery in Galway West are still on shaky ground. The National Roads Authority says the road from Clifden to Oughterard can only be upgraded if money becomes available next year. The NRA is currently working to complete a survey on national secondary roads by the middle of 2010.This survey must first be completed before planning begins on selected stretches of road including the N59 Galway to Clifden to Leenane road. While the NRA has given commitments that the Clifden to Oughterard route is a priority, it also says that development can only go ahead when money comes on stream.
