PLANS REFUSED FOR TUAM CREMATORIUM

Date Published: 10-Jan-2013
A proposal for a crematorium in Tuam has been refused by county planners.
The application from businessman Tommy Varden was turned down based on concerns over the bulk, scale and nature of the development.
The development in Tuam Townparks 2nd Division involved a two storey building which included a ceremony room, committal area, chapel, prayer room, administration office, staff areas, toilet and bio cremation area on the ground floor.
The first floor plans consisted of a reflection space, toilets and ancillary rooms.
The project also provided for two columbarian gardens where cremated remains can be stored, as well as a carpark.
