The Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources says he is sure he will be happy with the Government's closing statement on the Magdalene Laundries - when it eventually comes.

Pat Rabbitte says he is confident the State will behave appropriately on the issue.

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny and the Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore will meet with some of the survivors of the laundries at 2 this afternoon- after coming under fire for not apologising in full to the women affected.

Only partial records exist for the Sisters of Mercy run Magdalene on Forster Street in the city which closed in 1984.

Minister Rabbitte says the Government needed time to read the report on the launderies before responding.
