The oral hearing on the Moycullen by-pass is underway in the Westwood Hotel.

An Bord Pleanala will listen to submissions from Galway County Council, and other interested parties, before deciding whether to give the go-ahead to the works, which are estimated to cost 40 million euro.

Around 50 people are in attendance at the oral hearing in the Westwood, which is anticipated to continue tomorrow and possibly into Thursday.

The hearing opened at ten o’clock this morning, and the panel from An Bord Pleanala, has been listening to an extended submission by the Roscommon National Road Design Office, who were commissioned by Galway County Council to undertake technical road design and project management services for the project.

The planning panel continues to hear from Mark Keaveney, senior executive officer with the Roscommon team, who predicts that the by-pass will remove 65% of the traffic flow from Moycullen village.
