Oprah Winfrey is understood to have viewed a number of exclusive residential properties in Galway this week as she considers purchasing a home in the west of Ireland.

The talk-show icon was in Ireland for a sold-out Up Close with Oprah Winfrey show at the 3Arena on Monday night.

Having sampled the local Guinness in Doheny and Nesbitt on Baggot Street the previous evening, she took a flight to Ireland West Airport in Knock, Co Mayo on Monday morning accompanied by her real estate advisor.

They are believed to have visited a number of homes on the market in Galway, Mayo and Roscommon during a whistlestop tour of shortlisted properties, including one on the shores of Lough Corrib.

Having spent the early part of the day viewing properties in the region, Oprah flew back to Dublin ahead of her appearance at the 3Arena, during which she declared that she used to be a “big drinker” but found Guinness to be an “acquired taste”.

She had been pictured with pints of the black stuff in Doheny and Nesbitt on Sunday night and, although it hadn’t appealed to her initially, she sounded determined when she said: “I’m going to develop a taste for it.”

In addition to a number of exclusive homes in Galway, Oprah is also reported to have viewed properties in Cong, Co Mayo, and in Ballinlough, Co Roscommon during her visit.

Oprah Winfrey’s talk show ran for 25 seasons, during which she leveraged her stellar broadcasting success to create a vast media empire, beginning with the establishment of Harpo Productions in 1986.

She now has her own cable network, multi-platform production partnerships, and has a net worth of around $3.4 billion (€2.95 billion), according to Forbes.

She was nominated for an Academy Award for her acting debut in The Color Purple, and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013.
