NUIG RECEIVES 2 MILLION IN FUNDING FOR ASH CLOUD RESEARCH

Date Published: 19-Dec-2012

NUI Galway has been awarded funding for research on ash clouds.

Researchers at the Newcastle campus have secured 2-point-1 million euro from the European Space Agency to examine the issue.

More than 100-thousand flights in Europe were disrupted when an Icelandic volcano erupted in 2010.

NUIG spokesperson, Professor Colin O'Dowd, hopes this research will prevent 'knee-jerk, flight cancellations' across the board in the future.
