NUIG discovers risk factor for mental illness

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Researchers at NUI Galway have discovered a new risk factor for mental illnesses such as schizophrenia.Scientists have shown that changes in a little known gene, ULK4, were observed in people with schizophrenia, making it a risk factor.The gene also plays an essential role in proper brain formation.The research, led by NUI Galway and the University of Aberdeen, is published in the Journal of Cell Science.
